This book is NOT a STANDALONE and I wish that some of the people reviewing it did not erroneously report that it is, since I depend on reviews to give me an idea what to expect in a book. Also, I hate being duped into reading books that I have to purchase the other parts in order to find out what happens between the hero and heroine. Yes, I got the book as a free read but what good is a free read when you have to pay $4.99 for each of the other parts so you know what eventually happens. Had this book ended in a way that closed off the story between the hero and heroine, I would gladly have purchased other books in the series that continued their story after they end up together or told the stories of secondary characters. As it is, I have no zeal to purchase the other books in the series. Nobody likes to feel they were duped.

Having said that, the book wasn't bad in that I liked the chemistry between the leading man and woman, but I think the author deliberately drew out the story, perhaps to make it more lengthy, by giving a lot of boring details about locations and certain pieces of art/antiques. And also by making a big mystery of the murder of one of the characters. That made It kind of Nancy Drew in my opinion, if not for the sex scenes.

Covenant Paris Mob Book 1 edition by Michelle St James Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Christophe is so focused on the collection of the antiquities from his childhood that he misses the threat to his livelihood and his love. While a collector of beautiful things and finally admitting to his feelings for Charlotte someone is getting ready to destroy his world and all the people he knows. Add to this he mystery of the Tucker's Cross and treasure hunt that has him possibly losing the only woman he even loves and you have a mess.

This book is awesome and I cannot wait for the next installment.
What a great book. Michelle St. James did it again. From new york mobster story of nico vitalli, to london farrel black, luca and leo and now comes the paris mobster. The story was well written. What i like with the book is the air of mystery, action and the love between christoff and charlotte. The characters are both strong and you can connect with it. Its fast paced and full of action. I cant wait to read the second part.
This is the second book I have this week where the hero of the story was a criminal. Now let me tell you he may dress nice and have this cool European manner, but he is just a jerk and what he does to our lady is just ghastly. Yes she knew that it would happen, but still it was awful. One good thing was he saved her from an even worse jerk. This story was beastly, offensive and so good. It is a two part story and I cannot wait to read the next book.
This book is the first in a series and is told from alternating perspectives from the two main characters.

You can really feel the love between the two main characters! Their relationship is HOT! The author completely sucks you and and I just had to know what happens next! Now I HAVE to read book 2 to find out how their story and romance continue.
Covenant (Paris Mob Book 1) is a stand-alone book which is well-written with regards to story-line, sentence structure, grammar, descriptions, occasional use of almost poetic phrasing, etc., and has interesting characters. I wasn't looking for them, but didn't note grammatical errors other than use of "like" when "as" should have been used. As with author's book Ruthless (Mob Boss Nico and Angel Book 1), the main characters fall in love immediately, which is patently absurd, and the somewhat of an ending is designed to encourage reading of the next book. Unlike Ruthless, Covenant had no angst, and the action scenes lacked the expected intensity. As with Ruthless there is the love-at-first-sight scenario, and multiple over-the-top sexual encounters, although in Ruthless they are 3 to 6 pages in length and in Covenant at least two of them are 9 pages in length. But really, unless the woman protagonist is a sex deviant, a sex addict, or a prostitute, is it necessary for the sex scenes to be so explicit, so numerous, and so lengthy that they constitute major parts of the story? I know that this author has the writing skills to reduce these encounters in length and intensity so that they fit more seamlessly and appropriately into the story, yet still result in the "hot" book with high sales that she surely intends.

In Covenant, Christophe Marchand, head of the Paris mob, is instantly attracted to Charlotte Duval, who had just delivered the sixteenth-century Spanish desk which he had purchased from her father prior to the father's death. Charlotte (Charlie) is temporarily in Paris while settling her father's affairs, including possible closure of his business (restoration and selling of antiques at the Galerie Duval). Charlie is sexually attracted to Christophe immediately upon meeting him. After an incident at Galerie Duval, Charlie returns to Christophe for help. She informs him of having found a ring hidden inside of the back of the Spanish desk. It was later determined that it might possibly be linked to a murder, and to missing artwork which, in addition to the numerous and explicit sex scenes, become highlights of the story.

Yes this book includes a dramatic chase scene and an additional life or death scene, but there is no real intensity in the telling of those parts, at least when compared with comparable scenes in Ruthless. Michelle Zink/ St.James is a very talented author. It's just that Ruthless is so much more engaging, despite its' own numerous and explicit sex scenes and the absurdity of its' main female character immediately falling in lust with the man who had arranged her kidnapping. Reading Covenant to me was like watching a move with good actors, a decent story-line, and good visual effects, but which, for some unknown reason, falls flat. When compared with Ruthless, I found Covenant to be disappointing, although I concede that minus the love-at-first-sight scenario, and the absurd sex scenes, Covenant is well-written and quite likely to appeal to many.
Great beginning to the Paris Mob series. I was delighted when I heard that Christophe Marchand story was next. He was a character briefly in the London Mob series. This story has mystery, fascinating characters, and, of course romance. The H is someone who collects exquisite art and furniture. He gets delivered a rare desk from the American daughter of a recently deceased Parisian antique dealer. She finds a ruby ring in the piece and tries to research but finds a man's murder who owned it and that she is threatened by thugs for that item. She seeks Marchand's help because she had seen he had gun toting guards. So they are off on an international hunt for answers. It starts slow but quickly become an exciting and fascinating story. And the romance? Tres bon. Charlotte, the h, has issues but is strong-minded and demands a partnership wth a man who likes to lead. Fireworks. Cannot wait for the sequel.
