“Pay attention to him and his material, you will be glad you did.”

~ Bob Proctor, best-selling author and star of The Secret.

Description

It’s vitally important that you read books. As Mark Twain wrote, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.”

And many would agree that “personal development” books are the ones to focus on if you’re trying to improve yourself, your position in life and your quality of life.

But which ones should you read? There are tens of thousands to choose from.

Vic Johnson, a veteran personal development author, speaker and trainer, answers that question for us in “Self Help Books The 101 Best Personal Development Classics."

From an 1,100 page “encyclopedia of success” to a 28-page speech that became a classic more than a hundred years ago, Vic identifies the publication dates of the classics, the major theme(s) of the book and then some solid reasons to add them to your reading list.

Along the way he also shares valuable anecdotes on his personal lessons learned from these authors (some of whom have mentored him).

This is quick and easy reading that takes the guesswork out of choosing the books to add to your library as well as helping you prioritize your reading.

About the Author

Despite being totally unknown in the personal development industry when he launched his first website in 2001, Vic Johnson has gone on to become an international expert in goal setting and host of the popular TSTN show Goals 2 Go.

Evicted from his home in 1996 and his last car lost to repossession a year later, his story has become an oft-quoted source of inspiration to the more than 300,000 subscribers he serves worldwide. He is the author of the bestselling books Day by Day with James Allen and Goal Setting 13 Secrets of World-Class Achievers. He has appeared in numerous video programs with Bob Proctor, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Denis Waitley and Mark Victor Hansen.

If you're looking to improve yourself and attain, so far, unattainable desires, this is a great list to start from. It not only gives the title of each book but a short synopsis of the content of each.

As the author states in his introduction of this book, there are some people who will believe that he left out a book that they feel should have been included. I was surprised that my present favorite wasn't. The title is, "The Millionaire's Path" by Mark Fisher with Marc Allen. It's a two-fer. It includes two of Mark Fisher's books, "The Instant Millionaire" and "How to Think Like a Millionaire." Both books supplement and complement each other and together they're dynamite! The biggest reason for this high praise is not only because of the guidance within but because it includes a lot of explanation and the why's to back up a lot of the advice given. Most books don't include this which I personally need. It's just who I am. Without this, I often have trouble grasping the importance or truth of a lot of advice. I suspect that Vic Johnson may have left this one out because he felt that what was in it was already in the books he included in this collection. Of the self-help books I've read to date, this one is right at the top.

I would recommend this list and the additional book I recommended to anyone who has millionaire status as one of their aspirations in life.
Vic Johnson's book Self Help Books The 101 Best Personal Development Classics is a bargain at $.99 that is packed full of information on the best success books of all time that will change your life forever.

I have read many of these success classics from As A Man Thinketh to Think and Grow Rich etc. Vic has compiled in this handy guide an excellent summary and overview of these life-changing books with brief summary and commentary on how they can change your life too.

I have always wanted a guide like this to easily access the wisdom of the ages from the masters of success literature.

Vic has done an amazing job compiling this information.

This is a book I wish I had the time to write years ago. Vic has done a great job and should be commended for his efforts.
This is a great resource. As you know, leaders are readers and readers are leaders. I love how Johnnson lays out the plan. "Choose one of my top five classics and read the first two chapters. If it's not resonating with you, put it down and pick up another. And that's a wonderful thing about most personal development classics. You can pick one up, read a chapter and put it down for months. When you pick it up again it's not difficult to resume reading..." Of course you'll find books you expect to be there ... Covey, Maxwell, and How to win friends and influence people, As a Man thinketh, Think and Grow Rich, and See you at the top... but there are several books from the 19th century as well. I've already found some new ones for my hit list. It can only help you to get more ideas, no matter what level of leadership you already possess.
This book is just a list of other books. There are single web pages and wiki pages out there for free with the same information.
So the price for it while cheap is fairly high. I have iPhone apps for .99 that provide more value.

If you are new to self help and want a guide to help you explore this book might be useful. But I can summarize it in a few words for free.
Dale Carnegie
James Allen
Zig Ziglar
Tony Robbins.

Cover those 4 authors and you will encounter most everything else.
"The game of life" is a good book for those that are fundamentally Christian oriented.
It has been said that success leaves clues and a huge clue to a person's success is the books he or she reads. In the introduction of Self Help Books The 101 Best Personal Development Classics, author Vic Johnson states it is these books that created his wealth and success.
Vic begins by recommending five books to start with and offers some advice to make reading a daily habit. The balance of this book includes a description of the major theme and a brief summary of each recommendation. Vic then concludes with an admonition to take action on what you have read. These great books will do nothing for you if all you do is read them. However, if these 101 books (actually 102,) were the only books you ever read, if you put their advice into action I believe your success would be guaranteed.
Browsing the Table of Contents, I see many books I know well, including As A Man Thinketh which was the first personal development book I read and it changed my life. I also see other familiar classics such as Wooden and books I have not yet had the pleasure of reading like You2 (You Squared.)
The wide diversity of topics under the personal development umbrella assures there will be at least a few gems for every reader in this reference manual. I recommend you purchase this book, then select a few mentioned within to purchase (some can be found for free,) and, finally, implement what you read.
No matter how successful you think you are ... there's always room for improvement ... Vic Johnson has put together a list of classic volumes, some I'm familiar with and some ... I'm happy to say ... I'll have to look for ... perhaps at ... my can always use more good news.
